How to Moderate

We use the Zenith bot for moderation on the Discord. Below is a list of all of the commands we use.

/warn <user> <reason>
/mute <user> <duration> <reason>
/kick <user> <reason>
/ban <user> [duration] <reason>
/history <user> [page] [pagesize]
/case <case_number>
/resolve <case_number> [reason]

Logging

Log all completed moderations in the #mod-evidence channel. You are not required to use a specific format, however please include the following information in your log:

User ID
Type of Moderation
Duration (if applicable)
Evidence

DO NOT log evidence if the infraction is a serious TOS infraction, i.e. NSFW, gore, etc. You can use the following command to get a message matching all of these conditions:

/history <user> <pagesize:1>

Output:

Case #1 (Warn)
Target: i_am_solaris (746120685642055830)
Moderator: seaswimmer (657348862649958440)
Reason: L + ratio

Accountability Clause

Moderators are allowed to take initiative and moderate someone based on your own insights and intuition if you feel like it is not explicit enough in this document. If the moderation is fought by the moderated party then you must wait on the Discord Manager to come to a decision on the matter and resolve the dispute. Until then, the moderated party is to remain moderated until that decision is made. This does not mean you can false-mod members, however it does mean that moderators are allowed to take initiative against rulebreakers if something is not clarified sufficiently in this document. So long as you provide sufficient evidence and reason, you will not be punished if the moderation is overturned by the Discord Manager.

Minor Infractions

Bypassing the Filter

  • If a user posts a message, image, video, or other object that bypasses the filter, it should be modded under a minor infraction.
  • Self-censoring (using * or other characters in place of characters of filtered words) is to be modded if the bypass has the same amount of characters as the word it is intended to bypass and if it is clear as to what the word is intended to be.

Toxicity

  • If a user is doing any of the following things, moderate them under a minor infraction:
    • Instigating conflicts, hostility or arguments.
    • Causing disruptions that are unfit for the rest of the community such as harassment or mild threats.
    • This falls under the discretion of the moderator. Banter is fine, harassment/bullying is not.

Glorifying/Joking about Negative Historical Events

  • If a user is trying to glorify or joke about historical bodies/events they should be modded under a minor infraction. Examples are as follows:
    • Nazi Germany
    • The USSR
    • 9/11
    • Beirut explosion
  • This mostly falls to the discretion of the moderator.

Racism / Discrimination

  • If a user is partaking in hate speech or glorification of radical groups or events, they should be moderated under a minor infraction.
  • NSFW References
  • Any reference that is suggestive in nature to anything 18+ in any form including but not limited to Videos (Audio and visual) Images, and Messages.

Advertising

  • Any advertising that self-promotes the user and isn’t related to Zenith.

Major Infractions

NSFW Content

  • Adult Content or 18+ content
  • Gore or Violent Videos

Discord Profile Rule Violations

  • If a user has content in their username, profile picture, status, or about me that violates server rules, ban them permanently until they change the offending content.
    • If the offending content is a major infraction, ban them permanently without a chance to immediately appeal.

Follow Discord Terms of Service

  • Users are to be banned for breaking Discord’s Terms of Service and Community Guidelines.
    • Also includes banning underage users (<13).
    • We do not enforce the “Unauthorized Client Modifications” portion of the terms of service.

Keep in mind that users who are banned for breaking Discord ToS/Guidelines should always be reported to Discord, either through right-clicking the offending message and clicking “Report”, or sending a report through Discord’s support portal.
